Our first BOOK Discussion and Signing EVENT was held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at RIVERSIDE PUBLIC LIBRARY Mission and Orange Sts., Riverside, CA Jean Waggoner is the author of The Freeway Flier and the Life of the Mind with her “Last Renaissance Man” friend Douglas Snow. The book explores the necessity and joy of a life of the mind, the impossibility of achieving tenure for the majority of college and university faculty and the struggles and accomplishments of “freeway fliers,” members of the part-time labor force that comprises nearly 80% of teachers in U.S. higher education. Contributing “freeway flier” writers Emily Heebner, Diana MacDougall and Joan Koerper also read and joined the question-and-answer session.
